Welcome to Irish Signals and Systems Conference 2015

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all participants to the Institute of Technology Carlow and the 26th Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC) 2015.

Over the last 26 years, the conference has served to bring together knowledgeable researchers, scientists and engineers, both academic and industrial. ISSC 2015 continues to offer a forum where researchers can find a supportive audience and have the opportunity to create and renew professional and personal relationships with other researchers. Of note this year is the high proportion of submissions from postdoctoral researchers in the areas of internet of things, signal processing, control systems, smart grid communications, analogue, mixed signal and RF processing. We are especially proud of the abundance of papers in the field of analogue, digital and mixed circuit design. This topic is particularly important to both academia and industry and is most welcome.

Reflecting this, the 44 oral and 24 poster presentations will be accompanied by four world acclaimed keynote speakers from industry and academia. We continued the tradition of co-locating MIDAS meeting, now a regular fixture at ISSC. In addition to this, there will be a student poster competition supported by MIDAS, the winner of which will be given the opportunity to present their research during the industry session.

I am delighted to announce that this year’s conference proceedings will be published by IEEE eXpress Conference Publishing and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our technical sponsor, IEEE Signal Processing (UKRI Chapter) for it’s support and official endorsement.

It is with great pride that I welcome, for the first time at an ISSC Conference, the Irish Defence Forces who will provide live technical demonstrations.

I would like to also thank our financial sponsors - IT Carlow, MIDAS, Xilinx, Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland (MCCI), Rohde&Schwarz, and ExOrdo. We would also welcome the support of Intel, IBM, ARM, ON Semiconductor, Tomra, S3 Group, FAZ Technology, Ferfics, and Tyndall National Institute. Their support alongside that of the organising committee have been vital to the success of this year’s conference.

Conferences present an opportunity to advance technical knowledge and gain an insight on up-to-date research activities as well as facilitating the creation and rekindling of professional and personal friendships. I wish you an enjoyable and successful conference and I look forward to welcoming you all to Carlow.
